Policy Brief: Employment and parental leave around the time of birth
June 9, 2015

Little is known about parents’ experiences of recent parental leave in New Zealand, including their preferences and realities.

This policy brief from Growing Up in New Zealand describes the parental leave experience of the parents in the longitudinal study, particularly focusing on leave anticipated and taken around the time their babies were born. The brief also outlines the parent's wishes in regards to paid parental leave duration before their child's birth and the reasons for returning to work within the first 9 months of becoming parents.
