This project expands on ongoing work on the epidemiology of childhood obesity at age 4.5 years. IT will explore additional factors, such as antenatal exposure to antibiotics and other medications, which may be associated with childhood obesity. Community dispensing data is available from the NZ Pharmaceutical Collection database for cohort mothers who provided consent to External data linkage. Body mass index (BMI) as a continuous and a categorical outcome variable (obesity) will be regressed against the main exposure variables (e.g. antenatal antibiotic exposure), accounting for parental, child and environmental covariates. IT will also be examined within ethnic and socioeconomic subgroups.
