In a series of studies, we will explore the main determinants of cognitive functioning among 4.5 year-old NZ children. In this regard, cognition refers to language, motor and numerical ability, as well as working memory and inhibitory control.

We will first describe the data and its associations with early childhood and parental sociodemographic and behavioural data with the aim to develop a cohesive Cognitive Functioning Index. Next, we will determine the correlates and predictors of adaptive cognitive development. Child behaviour (strength and difficulties) at ages 2 and 4.5 years will be analysed in tandem with the cognitive data, both as mediating and moderating factors.
